· Father wears a red hat, which means he devotes his status as a chief
· There are tradictional igbo dancers at the wedding
· Grooms hat always matches bride's dress
· The people give the bride money and gifts to keep her happy and dancing
· The money that they get from this helps to pay for their actual wedding at a church
· The bride's family makes such demands for food items, drinks, tobacco and cigarettes as would resonate with the image of the family among the village folk
· It is necessary for the bride to have spent some time with the family of the bridegroom to get to know them.
· In times past she would accomplish this under the guise of returning an empty keg of palm wine to the bridegroom's family
· If serious incompatibility problems are discovered during this period, the marriage would be unlikely to proceed further.
· They have a family meeting with the middle man so that they can find out if they have any diseases that will carry on and make their child ill.
· If so there would be no wedding and everything would be cut off between them.
